"Well, sweetheart, it's nice to meet you. I'm Howard Stark." The man got up from his seat and walked toward Eira with an extended hand.

Eira took it with a firm shake. "It's nice to meet you, too. Tell me, are there any positions available for me? I'd be more than happy to join ... if you don't mind me bringing along my adopted son."

"How early can you start?"

~Present~

By the time she finished her story, A few people were either nodding off or all-out asleep.

Tony's snoring was almost as loud as thunder. Steve was nodding off, and Clint looked like he was about to follow Tony. However, Vision and Wanda were on the edge of their seats, Natasha looked bored, and the others had varying degrees of understanding and boredom. Thor was sitting on a chair now, leaning forward. However, Ryu was curled up next to Eira, his head on her lap. There was a wet spot on her pants where he had drooled in his sleep. A quick glance at the clock showed it was well into the next day.

"I suppose it'd be a good idea to retire for the ... morning." Eira picked Ryu up and carried him to their room, on the other side of the facility.

However, Eira couldn't even bother to think of sleep. Although she was an Asgardian, there wasn't much need for her to sleep as often as Thor or the others. One day out of a week was all she really needed ...

Maybe she should at least try to have a nice night to herself. Leaving her room, she walked down the hall and towards the doors leading outside. Instead of going out, she just stood there, staring into the night.

"Couldn't sleep?"

Eira glanced behind her. "Not really. Can't sleep, actually. I've only really needed to sleep once a week ... the whole day, of course." She chuckled at the thought. "Besides, I doubt anyone would want to talk to me after getting all warm and fuzzy like that. My reputation as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s grumpiest agent is ruined."

"I doubt that." Steve stood next to her. Their reflection in the window made them look like a couple ... almost.

Eira scoffed. "Then see you around. And at least try to get some sleep. You may be a Super Solider, but one can only go so long with a lack of sleep."

"Only if you move to the Avengers' wing. Since you're retired and all ..." Steve trailed off.

"And who's idea was that? Tony's? Tell him to eff off." Eira turned around and made to leave.

Steve cleared his throat. "Actually ... it was mine."

"What." Eira stopped in disbelief. "No way. You're too tired and not thinking straight. The only thing I'll do is make sure you get back to your room safely. Then I'm out of here for good tomorrow."

True to her word, Eira had vanished from the facility. Although, her Honda Valkyrie was missing ...

Ryu was an emotional wreck. He was convinced that Eira had left him all alone, despite everyone's sympathies. When he was done crying, he locked himself in his room, refusing to come out unless someone had food in their hands.

What happened next would haunt some people for the rest of their lives.

Screams of mortal terror were heard from the facility. And a huge black spider was skittering around, probably as lost as a new agent.

By the time Ryu found his 'pet', Thor had zapped it to a crisp and taken out half the power doing so.

That sent Ryu into another fit, clinging to his uncle as much as he could. At least Thor tried to cheer him up. That was the only thing the God of Thunder tried to do that morning.

The dark clouds that had been looming over the facility finally released the moisture they held. The rain pounded on the roof, drowning Ryu's sniffling out. He had finally let go of Thor, but would still follow the Asgardian around.

It was during lunch that an agent with dark hair that usually had a desk job came panting up to the two. "It's-Eira!" he gasped. "She's-been-hurt!"

That sent the two racing down toward Dr. Cho's area.

"Mama!" Ryu cried as Thor kicked the door down, shouting, "Sister!"

Eira was trying to avoid a needle being stuck in her arm, an angry red spot on said arm telling the story. While she was distracted, a nurse inserted the needle into her arm. "Ow! I said I don't need it!" Eira snapped, moving to rip the IV out of her arm.

"Do that again, and I'll send Thor in ... after ... you?" Dr. Cho looked at the God. "Nevermind ... he's already here."

Eira made a face and winced. She turned to face the two, and Ryu gasped. "Mama! What happened?!" he asked.

"Nothing major. Just wiped out on my bike and got bit by your spider." Eira shrugged, clearly indifferent about the whole thing. "If only someone-" She shot a glare at Dr. Cho, "would realize that I'll be fine in a few hours on my own, I'd be with you, Ryu."

Ryu ran to Eira on the bed. He climbed up on it, hugging Eira as best as he could without disturbing the IV. "I thought you left without me!" he sniffed.

"You know I'd never leave you alone for long, Ryu." Eira chuckled, ruffling his hair. "Besides, I'd never hear the end of it from Fury if you were here all by yourself for too long. A few errands to run, maybe a mission ... I know you can handle those. Besides, those mission days are over now that Fury has no jurisdiction over me anymore. I'll be able to spend much more time with you."

At this, Ryu smiled and put his head down on her chest, closing his eyes in content. Eira's cheeks flushed red with embarrassment while the anti-venom was working its way through her system. Thor left the two alone to tell the Avengers what happened with his sister.

"What happened to my room?"

Eira and Ryu were standing in the doorway to their room, but there was nothing in it. Eira sighed, reaching for her keys on her belt loop. "Ryu, how would you like to go for a drive to Ikea?"

Ryu didn't look too enthused at the idea. "I bet Thor took all of our stuff back with him so we have to go back."

"That's Loki, not Thor. I'll go talk to someone and get the answer we need." Eira sighed, shaking her head. Although she had gone without sleep for a couple days, the day's events made her feel exhausted. Hiding a yawn behind her hand, Eira went to find the closest agent.

"Oh! Eri-Eira!" She gave the Asgardian a bright smile. "I was hoping I'd find you before you got back! Your belongings were moved while you were being treated. They're now in the Avengers' wing."

Eira grimaced but thanked the agent anyway. Ryu following close behind, she walked to the opposite side of the building at a swift pace. Once she was near her destination, she slowed to her usual walking pace. "All right. Where did you put me tonight?" She entered their living quarters, clearly pissed off.

"Yikes. Eira's just like Thor, but she doesn't need a magical hammer!" James laughed as she came in. At a glare, the soldier shut up.

"Your room's the last on the left." Natasha supplied the location before Eira could ask.

Eira nodded her thanks and went down the hall to her room.

"Haaaah!" Ryu flopped down on the king sized bed. "Isn't this great, Mama?" he asked.

"Yeah, sure." Eira sat down on the other side. She pulled out her phone and the AI system in her room. "Move over, Bonnie. Destiny's in the building, and she's much better than you." She chuckled as her AI took over.

Now working with holograms of her furniture, Eira started to rearrange her room how she liked it. Ryu was soon fast asleep while she worked.

Glancing at the calendar she had just finished putting up, she groaned. It was only Monday!

"I absolutely hate Mondays ..." Eira grumbled.

"Eira, you should see this."

"Let me guess. Ryu's being a dragon again?" Eira didn't look up from her book.

"No, it's worse." Wanda was looking out the window. Again. "It's much worse."

Eira glanced out the window. "Aw, they're playing." She snickered at herself. "But I should probably get him to actually listen, huh." Eira sighed with a groan. "There goes my relaxing Tuesday."

Ryu, in his dragon form, was 'playing' with the Avengers. And by playing, it was mostly Ryu laying on some poor guy with silver hair, Cap trying to distract the dragon with his shield (hitting the scales repeatedly), Falcon and War Machine pelting the 'defenseless' dragon with bullets, and the occasional beam of yellow light.

"Ryu. I know you're going through a rough time, but that's no excuse to be doing this. Get off the speedster, call off the attack, and get your little dragon butt over here before I turn you into my next armor!" Eira had taken on the traditional 'pissed off mother' pose.

Ryu let out a growl of protest, which earned him a harsh glare from the Asgardian. "Now, Ryu."

The dragon huffed, sulked over to Eira, and bowed its head. Its expression didn't change when she pulled out a knife and raised it above his head. He didn't flinch when she embedded it in his scales.

Examining the penetration of the sharp object, Eira sighed. "I'd say you've still got a couple days, Ryu. Go take a chill pill and stop scratching. It only makes the itching worse." At Ryu's groan of a reply, she huffed. "I don't like to hear that tone of voice from you, young man. No dinner for the next week."

"Rrrrgh?! Raaawrgh!" Ryu collapsed to the ground in defeat.

"I don't care how good my cooking is. You shouldn't have been such an immature dragon." Eira turned to the Avengers. "Sorry he put you to this. He's about to shed his skin for the first time, and it's a big thing for young dragons such as that one. Not to mention he's never had any patience whatsoever."
The title was a little play on Attack on Titan ... I'm such a nerd.

Marvel owns everything but the story, Eira, and Ryu.
