"Would you care to explain what that (favourite animal) is doing in the lab?"

Tony was standing outside the lab, pointing at you through the windows.

Bruce gave Tony a curious look. "That animal, as you just called her, is my new lab partner. She doesn't constantly try to make me angry."

You slowly shifted back into your preferred human form. "Yup!" Your lips popped on the 'p'. "And technically, I was his experiment until you so rudely interrupted." You gave the billionaire a glare. "And you're not even laying a finger on me. If you do, I will personally shift into a dragon and eat you."

"I'd give you heartburn." Tony countered.

"That's outweighed by the source of iron you'd be." You stuck out your tongue like a little kid. "So, what's next on the list of things you want me to try?" You peered over Bruce's shoulder at the list he had made. Your favourite animal had been crossed off the list, and the next one just so happened to be-

"No. Nuh-uh. I am not doing that!" You backed away.

Bruce gave you a confused look. "I thought you said you wanted to test your limits and see what you can and can't do?"

"That doesn't mean I'm going to change into one of you guys! I am not wearing a dick!"

Absolute silence. Then Tony started to laugh.

"What else do you have on that list? Her turning into the Hulk? Thor? Steve?" Tony had doubled over in laughter, clutching his side.

Something inside you snapped at his comment. "You know what? Back off. I will personally turn into a raging woman with hormones and brutally murder you with your own damn reactor! What's the best way to turn Tony into a Stark fry?"

Tony turned white as a ghost and left you two.

You sighed, putting a hand over your eyes. "I honestly didn't mean for you to see that side of me," you groaned. "I really didn't mean for that to come out. Something inside me just snapped and that came out without thinking!"

Bruce seemed uneasy, but he tentatively put an arm around your shoulders. "Are you ready to try the next one, or should we just call it quits?"

All lamentations faded from your mind as you thought of the pranks you could pull with your abilities around Stark, no Avengers Tower. "I'm game. What's next?"*

Tony

At first he thought you were a hologram. A really good one that acted just like him.

But that was before he asked JAVRIS to stop projecting himself and the AI replied that it wasn't doing anything of the sort. The look of complete confusion and bewilderment. He looked at you up and down, then the reality hit him.

"Wait, don't tell me. (F/n)?" Tony asked.

You laughed, shifting back into yourself. "Yup! You got it! And faster than I thought you would, too. But don't tell the others yet, okay?" You grinned, pulling out your phone and sending a text to Bruce. "Okay, onto the next Avenger!"

"Just don't make Hulk angry!" Tony called as you ran out of the second lab.

Thor

"Pray tell, Brother Bruce, what is this copy of me doing here?"

Thor was extremely puzzled by your appearance in the kitchen, holding a box of his Poptarts.

You merely opened the box and threw a silver package of the pastries at him without a word. Even though you could shift, it didn't mean you could mimic others' voices.

"Actually, she's not a copy. She's a shifter." Bruce turned to you. "You can change back now, (F/n)."

With a giggle, you turned back. "All right. Who's next? Hawkeye? Oh! How about Widow? I wanna see her reaction!"

"Good luck, Maiden (F/n)." Thor took the box from you as you followed Bruce to the training floor.

Natasha

You yipped in surprise as you were sent crashing to the ground with a well-aimed kick. With a groan, you propped yourself up on your elbow. "Ow! Geez, if I had known you would have done that, I wouldn't have even tried!"

"What are you? And who?" Natasha asked, standing over you.

"Natasha, this is (F/n), my new lab assistant." Bruce came over, effectively sending Natasha back a couple steps. He helped you off the floor. "She just wanted to text her limits to what she can and can't do."

"Voices are a no-go, as well as abilities, personalities, and ... well, that's the limit known for now." You groaned as you popped your back, the cracks going up your spine.

"Sound like a useful ability as a spy. Good luck with the others." Natasha returned to the dummy, which looked like it had taken more than one too many beatings at the hands of the assassin.

Steve

"Bruce, what is this?"

Steve gestured to you.

"My latest experiment. A pretty accurate clone, wouldn't you agree?" Bruce stood by, giving you a smile. He and/or Tony probably told the Super Soldier about the whole cloning process, you assumed.

"When did you even get the time? Or the DNA sample?" Steve walked around you, looking you up and down. It was hard to keep the big ol' grin off your face.

"I have my ways, and JARVIS helped." Bruce winked at you as the AI spoke up.

"Dr. Banner, I was not aware of this experiment. Shall I inform master Stark?"

Steve now gave you a look of skepticism before you took a few steps back, raising your hands and returning to your normal, human form.

"Woah, wait! I don't want to be put back together by Bruce! I'm not a spy!" you stated. When Steve relaxed, you breathed a sigh of relief. "Phew! So, where's Clint? Any ideas?"

Silence quickly fell over the hallway, and you sighed. "Okay, then. Maybe later."

Clint

It wasn't until the end of the day that you finally saw Clint. And he didn't even fall for it.

"Nat informed me. You're a shapeshifter who's been posing as one of us."

You stuck out your lower lip in a pout. "Aw! I knew I should have saved Nat for last!"

"So, who's net on your hit list?" Clint asked.

You turned as red as the hourglass on Widow's uniform. "Uh ... Just one left. Bruce."

Clint looked around (seeing as how you two were the only ones up at two in the morning), making sure you were the only ones around. "All right. Here's what you should do ..."

Hulk

"ROAR!"

You groaned and rolled over in bed. "Not now, Bruce ... Still too tired ..."

Shaking made you bolt up. This wasn't good at all. He had 'Hulked out'. And you had no idea what to do. So you tried the first thing that came to mind: Go down and reason with him.

"Hey, big guy." You held out your hands in a calm way. The green giant turned toward you, teeth bared. You swallowed your fear, giving him a firm, yet caring look. "Calm down. I know you're angry."

He snarled, and you faintly heard the others warning you to stop. Then he started toward you, and you swallowed nervously.

Okay ... plan B. You took a few steps back, your hands dropping to your sides and curling into fists. "Okay, fine then. You guys and gal might want to evacuate. I've never done this before, and there's a probablechanceImightdie but I'm going to do it anyway!" You felt your body chance into something that actually might help ...

Hulk stared at you, as if he were incredulous. "Hulk ... confused?"

You let out a loud growl, one that shook the tower.

Two things happened almost instantaneously. One was that Hulk de-Hulked back to Bruce.-

The other was the world fading.

Bruce

"Would you mind explaining what in the world I'm doing here?"

You were now back at the lab while Bruce played with something on one of the HUDs. You were sitting on one of the tables while he was running experiments on a few of the scales you had allowed him to remove.

"I wanted you here ... in case the Other Guy decides to come out." Bruce frowned as he read the results. "What did you say you changed into, again?"

"Dragon. You know, from How to Train Your Dragon? I tried for an intimidating one ..." You trailed off, trying to remember which one you had tried.

"It worked, whatever it was. But exhausting yourself won't do much." He finally turned to you, holding a scale as big as a penny, maybe a slight bigger. "These are tough, almost like Adamantine or Vibranium."

You scoffed as you grew the scales on your arms again. "So, are you saying that I would be a useful shield in combat? Not what I had hoped for." Your nails elongated into claws, matching your (f/c) scales. "I bet my claws are tougher than diamond, then! You got one or two?"

Bruce ignored your shifting, and you pouted. "It's not that. I was just thinking ... how long do you think you could keep those scales up?"

"I'm not going to become your worst case scenario, Bruce." You crossed your arms and took a stubborn pose on the counter you were sitting on. "Because ..." You trailed off, trying to hide your blush in the bright lights.

He turned around, confused. "Why?" Then he noticed your blush. He turned back around, but not before you could see him blushing, too.

"Sorry. I knew I shouldn't have signed up for this. I'll go back to S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ and tell them that I can't work with you anymore." You slid off the counter and turned to the door. You were stopped when he wrapped an arm around your waist.

"Wait. I should be the one apologizing." Bruce's voice was closer than you had thought. "I'm just scared. Scared that he's going to come out and hurt the people close to me. Again. I want you by my side because you're the only one that keeps him farther away than I've ever known before."

It took you a few minutes to process what he had just said. "Wait, so you're telling me that I'm the one that you're most comfortable around because of what I am?" That surprised you. Most people were revolted by what you could do. You had volunteered to join S.H.I.E.L.D. because you wanted answers as to why you were this way. You were born with a normal family with a normal life. Instead of being a normal person, you felt like a freak, shunned by the world. "That's ... Well, I don't know. Useful?"

"So, are you going to take me up on that offer?" Bruce asked, his arm falling as you turned to face him.

You nodded resolutely. "Yes. Even if I have to turn into a fire-breathing dragon to stop OG in his tracks!" You held up a fist. When he didn't do anything, your smile fell slightly. "Don't leave me hanging ... knuckles?"

He fist-bumped you. "I'm counting on you to have my back."

~*~Extended Ending~*~

"Where did all those scorch marks and gouges shaped eerily like claws in the lab come from?" Tony asked as he entered the common living area.

You and Bruce shared a look. Then you innocently looked at the ceiling before Bruce explained, "I was just testing (F/n)'s dragon powers. She's good to have on our side. Not so much on the poor agents she took out a couple hours ago."

"Wait. Where did you two go?" Tony leaned on the back of the sofa.

You snickered. "Oh, nowhere special ... Just to S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ's labs ... What were their names again, Bruce? Sits and Film?"

"Fitz and Simmons. Two of the top scientists there." Bruce supplied the information you had gotten mixed up.

"Oh, right! Yeah. I might have sort of accidentally set fire to some chemical or another there. Fury's going to be furious." You snickered.

Tony just shook his head. "You two are going to be worse than Clintasha."

*And I might turn this into a mini-series with you and the others having a bit of bonding time. Can you imagine Thor on Toothless? For some strange reason, I'm ashamed to say I can ... u>.>
